Your probably thinking what is going on?

Well messaging service provider WhatsApp is about to stop working on a number of old smartphones according to sources, meaning owners of older model smartphones will have to buy newer devices if they want to continue using the messaging app to the best of its ability. On New Year’s Day, WhatsApp will remove support for a number of devices – which updated versions of the software can no longer be installed on. This means that owners of these out-dated devices won’t be able to enjoy any new features or patches for security holes which are often introduced in updates.

From January 1 2018, anyone still using phones which run BlackBerry's Operating System, BlackBerry 10 or Windows Phone 8.0 will no longer be able to update their WhatsApp software. In a blog post, WhatsApp wrote: ‘While these mobile devices have been an important part of our story, they don’t offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future.

You can check what software your current device is running by heading to the settings>about. This should tell you if your phone software is currently old as you should be able to find the software update feature which will be able to tell you if there are any new updates for your phone. I can understand the whole needing a new device to run whatsapp but this had made me realise that there could be a potential boom coming in phone sales for the new year.

Nokia 6120 may be a very old device but still supported Whatsapp

Whatsapp is a pretty big messaging service as it offers a number of services to currently more than 1 billion registered users in over 180 countries. Reading forward on the Metro, a statement made by Whatsapp says "This was a tough decision for us to make, but the right one in order to give people better ways to keep in touch with friends, family, and loved ones using WhatsApp".

It may seem a bit saddening but I guess it had to be done as the new age approaches and 2018 is literally a couple days away now. Hoping that if there are changes to be made, it doesn't effect consumers in a major way, what do you think anyway?
